Solar Panels

Solar Panels for Our Modular Homes

There is an ever growing concern in our country and around the world to produce homes that will help and not harm the environment and decrease building, maintenance and heating and electric costs to the home owner.  These trends are woven into the very fabric of the modular home construction process.  Our modular homes are system built to exceed the efficiency of stick built homes and many lesser quality modular homes.  The high efficiency of our homes is achieved in a number of ways including: efficient home design techniques; efficiencies of the largest modular factory in the world including much less waste than other smaller less efficient factories; advanced building techniques (i.e. inside out construction) and high tech product availability.

Custom Modular Designs offers many options that can make our modular homes even more efficient.  For example, one available option that can be incorporated into our modular homes is the addition of solar panels.  Solar panels are becoming more popular as society's need for alternative energy options increases.  As heating and electricity costs are on the rise home owners are looking for more alternatives to lower the cost of these two necessities.  Solar panels are not just for the resident that is located a far distance from a power grid.  Homes in cities and suburbs are also taking advantage of the benefits solar power can give them.

Solar panels are a device that collects solar energy from the sun and converts that energy into electricity or heat.  Our modular homes can easily be fitted with photovoltaic modules or solar thermal collectors.  The photovoltaic modules are solar panels that convert the solar energy into electricity.  They are usually incorporated into the roof of our modular homes.  The solar thermal collectors are solar panels that convert solar energy into heat.  The most common form for modular homes is the flat plate version of solar thermal collectors.  These usually come in weatherproofed, insulated boxes containing a black metal absorber sheet that has built in pipes, which are placed in the sunlight.  This type of solar energy heats up the water in the pipes causing it to circulate through the system by natural convection.  The water is usually passed to a storage tank located above the collector.

Solar alternatives are great tools to reduce or completely eliminate your electric and heating costs.  For more information relating to solar panels and how we can meet your needs for your environmentally friendly modular home please contact our office at 401.490.0944.
