Energy Star

Below is a list of general guidelines to consider when building a new modular home to meet or exceed ENERGY STAR performance levels. The ENERGY STAR Home Program provides an overall rating of energy efficiency after the modular home has been completed. Therefore, there are items which must be completed by our factory and other items which must be completed by you on-site.

Your new modular home must undergo inspection and testing by a third-party rating agency before it can receive the ENERGY STAR label. You should contact your local ENERGY STAR office early in the modular home planning stage to see if there are any regional requirements which must be met. For more information on the ENERGY STAR office nearest you, go to www.energystar.gov or call 1-888-STAR-YES.

GENERAL DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

  1. Limit the excessive use of windows in the design of your modular home.
  2. Consider the use of argon filled window glass.
  3. Discourage the use of recess lighting for your modular home. If recess lighting cannot be avoided, specify AT/IC (Air Tight/Insulation Contact) rated fixtures. If a gas range is used, position so the range can be vented to the exterior of the modular home.
  4. It is preferable to place the range on an exterior wall of the modular home to reduce duct length.
  5. The use of ENERGY STAR labeled appliances in your new modular home is recommended.
  6. The use of "Non-vented" or "Ventless" appliances, such as fireplaces in your new modular home is prohibited.
  7. Have your modular home design pre-checked by your local ENERGY STAR office so requirements for certification can be discussed during the planning stage.

LOWER UTILITY COSTS + GREATER COMFORT = SMART DECISION

ENERGY STAR labeled modular homes offer savings every month through utility bills that are significantly lower than those of equivalent, standard homes. These savings can amount to hundreds of extra dollars every year.  Our modular homes have tighter construction, which eliminates drafts, reduces outside noise and blocks the entry of airborne pollutants.  Tighter ducts improve airflow, allowing you to maintain a desired temperature throughout your modular home. They also reduce exposure to indoor pollutants which enter duct work through leaks in attics, basements and garages.
